Fun fact: when I see cute animals, I forget English and automatically revert to my native Hungarian. I don’t know what bystanders make of me, reciting guttural gibberish to rabbits.
But the real question is, what are you SAYING to the rabbits? Is it ‘RABBIT! rabbit rabbit rabbit rabbit rabbit rabbit bunny bunny bunny awww cute bunnyyyyy’?
Well, I usually say the Hungarian equivalent of ‘bun bun bun lil bun look at your tiny spoon-shaped ears awww bun brave little lawnmower bun’, but sometimes I say ‘hey rabbits, my sister’s gonna go to med school’ because I think everyone should know.
I live in Japan, and I always revert to English to talk to small animals, and I was cooing at this tiny little fluff machine of a puppy in baby english like “hello you’re so cute such a cute hello hello yess you’re good” and the 70 year old Japanese lady that was walking him started to *translate the baby talk english into Japanese* for her pup. She wanted to be sure he understood it too.
ACCURATE.
I was at a pet store with Eileen. A woman walked up to us and asked if she could pet her. Eileen’s collar has ‘Deaf Dog’ embroidered on it. The lady asked about it, I confirmed, yes, she’s deaf. The lady immediately switched to American Sign Language and asked her how was her day, was she being a good girl, she’s so pretty. Eileen is wagging her tail excitedly, knowing that someone is talking to her.
THIS IS SO WHOLESOME
That cat is C H O N K
I fucking hate Coding discourse…
Speaking as a bisexual, I cannot stand it when people get up in arms about a character’s ‘coding’.
“Bioware constantly queerbaits! Look at Cassandra and Cora! They’re clearly coded to be lesbians! No straight woman has those hairstyles!”
“Angel Dust is such a harmful trans stereotype! No, I don’t care that he’s not actually trans, he’s clearly coded like a trans person!”
Or, and hear me out, individual people are humans who have individual tastes and methods of expressing themselves that are not, and will never be, 100% transmissible across the table.
Like, for example, a gay man acting incredibly camp and feminine because he thinks it’s fun.
Or, perhaps, a straight woman sporting a traditionally butch hairstyle because she thinks it makes her look good.
I’m bisexual, and I don’t ascribe to nearly half of the stereotypes surrounding my orientation. Oh, I’m sorry, ‘coding’.
Actually, no. That is an apt description. Coding is literally just stereotyping by another name. The only difference is that people are bizarrely trying to stereotype their own damn orientations or identities.
It’s trying to categorize people, real or fictional, into neat little boxes for the sake of convenience.
Like, do any of you realize that, by doing this, you are attributing to the very same mentality that causes nearly half of the societal issues the LGBTQ community faces damn near every single day!
You. Are. Not. Helping.
Ignoring that butch isn’t a lesbian-only concept, we really need to kill the idea that “masculine woman”=“lesbian.” Lesbians themselves should be the last ones reinforcing this notion!
Cassandra is masculine. It fits her character. She was raised in a noble family and treated like a doll all her life. Of course she would reject things having to do with physical appearance traditionally associated with women (dresses, long hair, etc)!
Gender non-conformity is not and never has been a gays-only thing! A character breaking gender norms does not mean they’re a gay person! Cassandra is straight up straight! She’s only in to men!
“Coding” is bullshit. It’s almost always just “I want this character to be this, so they are clearly meant to be this based on all these stereotypes.”
It’s so stupid. And besides, We already got a lesbian character in Dragon Age Inquisition! Sera! Our little blonde elf trickster! And we got a gay male option (Dorian), a straight option (Solas), and even two bisexual characters (Blackwall and Iron Bull)! “Queer coding” is not needed, and there’s no “queer baiting” in Bioware because we’ve got queers ga-fucking-llore in each fucking game we get in to!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, the only legit type of “coding” of fictional characters is hint-dropping in the narrative by the author(s), usually to avoid censorship. Everything else is wishful thinking and stereotyping.
Elon Musk wants to hook your brain directly up to computers — starting next year
Elon Musk, the futurist billionaire behind SpaceX and Tesla, outlined his plans to connect humans’ brains directly to computers on Tuesday night, describing a campaign to create “symbiosis with artificial intelligence.” He said the first prototype could be implanted in a person by the end of next year.
